Tonight, the Old Pound Inn is set to reverberate with the electric vibes of Twisted Vinyl, a band that’s been making waves with their unique sound and stage presence. Lea, the heart and soul behind the Old Pound Inn, sat down with Josh Park, lead guitarist and backing vocals for Twisted Vinyl, for an exclusive interview. Get ready for a sneak peek into the minds of the artists who will be taking the stage on this memorable evening.
Meet the Band:
Lea: “What inspired the formation of Twisted Vinyl, and how would you describe the band’s musical journey so far?”
Josh Park (Twisted Vinyl): “We formed as a collage band as part of our music course. In 2015 we decided to enter a local talent competition held in the Octagon Theatre in Yeovil which we unexpectedly ended up winning. This gave the band a kick start in terms of local publicity and we spent the prize money to buy some PA equipment to start gigging with. One gig led to another and we’ve never stopped since!”
Lea: “Twisted Vinyl has a unique sound that blends different genres. How did you develop your distinctive musical style, and are there specific artists or experiences that influenced this fusion?”
Josh Park (Twisted Vinyl): “We all like different music styles and genres so each member of the band brings their own influences and styles which has become our ‘signature sound’. We never want to try and play music we think people might like and recognise, instead, we try and play music we collectively love which I think is important as it keeps our performance fresh. If we’re enjoying what we’re playing, hopefully, our enthusiasm will rub off onto the audience as well.”
Lea: “Your live performances are known for their energy and connection with the audience. How do you prepare for a live show, and what do you enjoy most about the live performance experience?”
Josh Park (Twisted Vinyl): “We love every live show we play. Whether it be a big summer festival or a small country pub gig, we love the variety of the bookings we seem to get throughout the year. We always like to get to gigs nice and early to set up and prepare, even if sound and lighting are provided for us. We find this gives us plenty of time to relax before a performance which ensures we’re ready to go when it’s time to perform. We find the more relaxed we are, the better performance we’re able to give.”
Lea: “Take us behind the scenes of your creative process. How do you collaborate on songwriting, and what sparks the inspiration for your music?”
Josh Park (Twisted Vinyl): “We haven’t had time for a while now to write any new songs as we’re always busy gigging. When we do get time though, we like to blend all of our individual inspirations and influences together to create something that sounds recognisable as the ‘Twisted Vinyl signature sound’.”
Lea: “Looking ahead, what are Twisted Vinyl’s aspirations for the future? Any upcoming projects, collaborations, or milestones that fans can look forward to?”
Josh Park (Twisted Vinyl): “We’ve already got a packed calendar of gigs for 2024. We’re also planning on upgrading some of our kit as well as writing new songs and learning some new covers. Keep an eye on our socials for where we’re playing next and what we’re been up to!”
